The US tariff exemption for parcels valued below US$800 will be permanently canceled as of 12:01 AM Eastern Time today (29th) (12:01 PM Hong Kong time), Reuters reported. The US Customs and Border Protection will begin imposing normal tariff rates on all imported parcels.
The measure is permanent, and all parcels transported by express companies such as FedEx (FDX.US), UPS (UPS.US), and DHL will be subject to the full tariff rate, the report cited a senior government official as saying. These companies will be responsible for collecting tariffs and handling related documentation.
